UNR vs TJD   128 - 36

The Slimy Place - Q2DM7

The scoreline shows this was an easy win for UNR. To be fair to TJD it looked as if a couple of their players lacked DM experience and were suffering. My guess is that TJD were giving less experienced DM players a taste of the competition. I also noticed at least one TJD with severe connection problems, the poor gut was 'floating' above one of the ladders :(

Slight team change for us this week. Tas decided to play some of the guys who don't get to play matches often.

UNR got off to an untypically slow start. We also had some problems with an extra player joining by mistake. It was all sorted out quickly and we soon got our game going.

A lot of the action centered around 2 areas. The RL / GL platform and the hyperblaster area.

TJD were trying to control the RL and RL platform for most of the game. Credit to them for sticking to their gameplan under heavy assault from UNR. A lot of the battles in this area involved 3 or more players.

Unfortunately for TJD, whenever UNR players got to the platform the TJD guys seemed to have just missed weapons. Quite often there were 2 TJD players on the platform with nothing but pistols being attacked by UNR with S Shotguns, machineguns and hyperblasters. This area was an absolute fragfest at times ;-)

UNR also had a lot of the weapons under our control. Part of TJD's problem was actually finding weapons to use. We tend to cover a lot of ground, allowing us to pick up all the ammo and many of the weapons available.

No outstanding playing from UNR today..we matched each other pretty much frag for frag throughout the game. Tas gets lowest number of deaths for the umpteenth week running...

TJD Sativa played well, as did Indica when he came on as a sub.

Well played UNR Diabolic and Inquisitor in your first match, and well played TJD for a brave game.

UNR vs UKF   89 - 81

The Lava Tomb - Q2DM6

WOW. And I thought the SK match was close.
Where to start?
Well played [UKF] for making this a close and exciting match for all involved :)
Not so well played by [UNR]...maybe we shouldn't have tried a new set of untested tactics in a match..silly us :(
On with the commentary...

Our switch to new tactics (and their play) got [UKF] off to a flyer...UNR trailing approx 10 - 1 in first minute!
[UKF] then consolidated their lead by controlling the quad, RL amd BFG for the first half of the game...played lads.
After 5 or 6 mins the score was approx 13-30 in favour of UKF. At this point Tasan made the decision to revert to our normal style of play and to sub Luke, who was suffering with conn probs, for B0se..the newest addition to the UNR line up.
Those decisions marked the start of the fightback for UNR....6 mins after the tactical and player changes the scores were 49-44 to UKF.

Rather then getting rattled by this rapid turnaround UKF stuck to their guns and matched us frag for frag for the majority of the game. UNR did not take the lead until approx 3 mins from the end.
As you can imagine most of the action centered around the quad/rocket launcher location with multiple frags scored with the BFG and explosive weapons..Put bluntly it was a massacre at times in that area ;-)
With just a minute or so to go the scores were at 81-81...if that's not a nail biter i don't know what is. A final flourish from UNR put us 8 ahead at the end of the match (phew!)

If you get a chance to see Finn's demo i would strongly reccomend it. Great demo Finn of a great game :)
Special mention to B0se...well played m8. That's what you call a trial by fire :)
(All times and scores are approximate..please don't flame me if i'm a coupla mins/frags out)

UNR vs APO   85 - 51

The Pits - Q2DM5

APO got off to a bit of a flyer, grabbing the quad and putting in some quick frags. We soon pulled back tho, the assault led by Tasan and Yakumo.

APO concentrated on the RL and the quad/railer positions from what i could see. The action in these areas was fast and furious. I also saw quite a lot going on down by the mega-health..you greedy peeps you ;-)

APO also seemed to be playing a pairs combination, attempting to use the superior firepower of two players to hold key areas. As ever tho' the inherent problems with this system hampered play, APO tending to block each others shots. The other problem of course is the risk that a Rocket Launcher shot will take out 2 players at once... this is seen a couple of times in the demo...

Tas and Yaku as ever were on fire... I am running out of superlatives to describe their play each week ;-)

A quick look at the gibstats shows Fragmeister Tasan was back on top form after a few conn probs...welcome back Tas ;-)

UNR vs SK   70 - 61

Lost Hallways - Q2DM4

WOW!!. What a match. This is the one of the closest games UNR have played in the UKCCL.
There was a slight hiccup at the start with the server deciding to re-set itself :(
Right from the restart the two teams were into their stride, matching each other frag for frag for most of the match.
Much of the game centered around the RL, RG, and yellow armour locations with [SK] attempting to hold the locations and [UNR] trying to break them. [UNR] were able to access the areas we needed much of the time except the quad location. [SK] had control of the quad for most of the match..well played [SK]
[SK] Death was on fire for the oppostion - their highest scorer and also the guy doing a lot of quad coverage.
About 5 mins into the game [SK] managed to pull away by 6 or 7 frags but we reeled them back in pretty quickly. The gap opened i think mainly because of [SK]'s control of the quad.
Then it was our turn to take a 6 or 7 frag lead at about the halfway point. Unfortunately [SK] felt obliged to put in a flurry of frags to pull level again :(
[UNR] pulled away again towards the end of the game, finally taking victory against [SK].
We made this game difficult for ourselves by allowing [SK] to control the quad..we musn't let that happen again....

A hard fought victory..well done team.

UNR vs AbFab   100 - 72

The Frag Pipe - Q2DM3

Firstly i just gotta say this... Yakumo mate, YOU WERE ON FIRE dood :)
We expected this to be a tough game after defeating abfab for the season 1 title and it was. Both teams fielded maximum players (including 2 reserves each) and we had another 1 or 2 waiting on ICQ!!
Most of the action centered around the RL half of the map...with not too much going on out by the railer and machine gun.
As in the [SS] game, Tas and Yaku got us off to flier, racking about 20 frags between them in the first few mins. of the game.
AbFab did some good work holding the area on top of the fragpipe for the Super Shotgun, controlling that wep for most of the match. Also this area gives access to many areas of the map.. tactically an important spot.
Unfortunately for them they couldn't get full control of the Rocket launcher. We were able to access that area (and the weapon) for most of the game.
This in turn gave us the RL allowing Yaku and 155 to gain the invulnerability a number of times between them, keeping abfab from getting this important item (Yaku sure does look pretty in pink).
The railer saw some serious usage and abusage in the match, with RailMeister Yaku totally dominating with that weapon. He railed a number AbFab guys holding the Rocket Launcher, an important contribution.

UNR vs SS   96 - 30

The Edge - Q2DM1

Firstly I have to say that some of the [SS] players had connection problems. From a clan that's been there UNR know how frustrating that is and so offered a rematch immediately after the game.
[SS]Just Ade made the decision to not replay, stating that he didn't want to set a precedent for rematches. A tough decision well made [SS]Just Ade.
Tasan and Yaku got off to a flying start, racking some very quick frags. This allowed us lesser mortals to grab some weapons and 'tool up' for battle! Luke and Yakumo had a field day with the Railguns, scoring nearly a third of our frags with that weapon alone.
SS didn't seem to be able to get their gameplan working on this occassion - possibly due to their conn. problems. It looked like they were trying to command the area from the grenade launcher to the Rocket Launcher on the top platform. Unfortunately the positions were not easily defendable, especially when attacked from more than one direction.
So a good result for UNR ...our commiserations to SS.
