UNR vs FED   83 - 59

Warehouse - Q2DM8

This was the first time we had played FED. We knew they had some good players and could match us LPB for LPB. Therefore we decided to field a strong team against them. We had problems with our selected team on the night as a new mouse clashing with his modem had crashed Yaku's PC. This meant a last minute substitution while he desperately tried to get his system up and running again.

Rude too had his own problems, again a mouse issue. He has decided to increase his sensitivity and is ..ahem...'having trouble hitting a barn door' at the moment :-P (watch it tho' doods, when he's adjusted to it he will be back....you have been warned).

So, the team in tatters, we went into the game...

Tactically we made an error, not being that keen on the BFG we had left it out of our gameplan...WRONG!!! Even if we didn't use it we should have denied FED access to it. FED used this to great advantage, controlling the BFG for the first 10 minutes completely, using the weapon and guarding the location well. FED chalked up over a third of their frags with the BFG, many in the first half of the game. Well played to them.

So UNR were off to a slow start and a couple of us were having trouble establishing any sort of rhythm :(

The frags are pretty even up to half way. At this point 2 things change for UNR. Rude decides he is not familiar enough with his new mouse settings for competitive play and subs in Luke. Yaku decides to break the FED control of the BFG.

These changes enable us to take more control of the map, giving the whole team a slightly easier ride - Insomniak, who had a very poor game, racks up a few at the end to help push the total up a little.

Yaku and Tas make some good kills by the BFG access points, with Yaku grabbing the BFG and giving FED some of their own ;-)

The final minutes sees the map under our control fully for probably the first time in the game and we rack a number of late frags. Respect to FED for a very tough match. Excellent tactical play and good weapon control.

Well played UNR for adapting to a last minute change of plans and especially to those of you who broke the FED hold on the BFG - from the demo mainly Yaku and Tas.

Moments for the scrapbook....

FED crazyface scores an amazing BFG kill...Yaku, Tas and Luke all with one shot..gotta be the kill of the season. Don't worry lads, I'll carry on alone, you just have a rest on your respawn points ;-)

Tas is caught on the demo a number of times rocketing FED doods on their way up the boxes to the BFG.

A whole loada shots of UNR players grabbing a good weapon and being BFG'd before they can use it :(

Not much else really but there are lost of examples of good individual skills from both teams

UNR vs EED   162 - 4

Lava Tomb - Q2DM6

As with the game against CFH we didn't know what to expect with EED. We put out a pretty strong team against them, including Tas and Luke doing the LPB duty, with Inso and Yaku on HPB.

EED had a very quick start going 5 to 2 up at one stage I think. Unfortunately they were not able to capitalise on this :(

From just after minute 2 or 3 we got into our game and started controlling the weapons and armour.

Credit to EED for holding onto the yellow armour location for much of the match. However, they did make themselves easy targets by congregating in there and by the quad...you might want to re-think those tactics a little doods :)

Luke had the Quad totally under his control..so much so that even the other UNR players couldn't get a look in :-P

Credit to EED for their sense of humour under difficult conditions. It was not easy for them to take on our 2 LPB's. More than once i chuckled at the stuff the EED guys typed in :)

There was some extremely good dodging from EED, one or two of their players making tricky targets to hit.

With the map under fairly tight control EED struggled for weapons and ammo. This made their task extremely difficult. UNR pulled away steadily throughout the match to end up with a convincing win.

Well played UNR. Also, well played to EED who displayed a fine sense of humour under adverse conditions.

UNR vs CFH   107 - 32

The Pits - Q2DM5

This was the first time UNR had played CFH and we didn't really know what to expect. As such we played a fairly strong team against them. We fielded 2 LPB's...which CFH could not match :(( sorry guys...

Anyway, the game...

We took control of the key areas fairly early on, with a lot of the action throughout the game centering on the red armour, quad and RL locations.

Tas was in good form, fragging away like a fragging thing. Yaku went mental with his railer, scoring some very nice pops with it :)

Rude and JB gave excellent support, both contributing to the final tallies.

I will just mention JB here. He has had commitments preventing him from playing regularly of late. As such even Rauper didn't know who he was :(

Well, after a shaky start (trying to lose the rust), he got back to form. In the second half of the match JB totally controlled the quad for us..nice play dood :)

CFH played well but were not able to gain any sort of lasting control over the map.

Well played to Smerfy, their top scorer.

Played guys, another convincing win for UNR :)

UNR vs SAN   130 - 34

Lost Hallways - Q2DM4

UNR's first match against Sanguineous was supposed to be a bit of a trial run, for the upcoming UKCCL cup final. Unfortunately san didnt have the players available they wanted to field, but eventually sorted out a team.

The match started pretty quickly, both teams picking up a few frags quickly. Unfortunately for SAN, UNR took control of the main weapons and armour making it very difficult for them to get tooled up.

UNR maintained their hold on these key areas of the map, building up a hefty frag difference.

As half time past the match became a bit of a light heighted affair, with both teams in stitches at the many players lava dives.

The match ended with UNR the clear winners, although i think SAN's play was somewhat halfhearted. SAN played very well in the following match, the ukccl cup final, click here to see the details.

UNR vs KING   101 - 68

The Frag Pipe - Q2DM3

Unusually for UNR we had a very slow start. This allowed King to take control of the RL at a very early stage. They kept control of it for the first half of the match - covering the back ladder with an SSG. This location seemed pivotal to their tactics, many of their team heading there to get weapons passed to them.

The RL guarding tactic worked well for the first 6 to 8 mins of the match. At this point UNR started messaging each other to ensure everyone had caught on to this ploy. From then on the RL position was under constant assault from us. Credit to King for still managing some control of it under this pressure.

BTW. Not sure how much RL ammo King had access to...I (and other UNR players I'm sure) was running around picking up as many rockets as I could in an attempt to starve them of ammo ;-)

I was surprised that King opted to control the RL as opposed to the Railer. We had free access to this weapon and used it to great effect - Yakumo mate...you were on FIRE!!!

From the demo it appears King also attempted to control the SSG area. Normally a sound tactic as this is a major crossroads on this map. However Iono, covering this area, came under a lot of pressure from quaded UNR players. He had a tough job keeping us away from the quad and SSG.

Scoring timetable

We were down 11 - 2 in the first 2 minutes of the game. However, by the 4th minute we had reduced the deficit to just 2 frags (19-21). We then went frag for frag until minute 10 when we pulled away to 48 - 35. This was when I knew we had this one sewn up. The King tactics analysed, we had started to hit their team very hard and pull out a lead. This was spearheaded by Luke and Yaku with their railers. Much respect to them for a fantastic offence.
By minute 15 we were 81 - 51 up and in control of the map. The final 5 mins saw the frag difference remain constant (mainly thanks to some ace rocketing from Sheeva on 3% health !!)

Cool stuff from the demo.

An assault on the RL position by Luke and Yaku with Railguns. The King guy pops his head out to launch rocks at them and gets attacked by 2 rails (Yaku scores the kill).

Yaku going for a grenade jump to the Quad and being rocketed by Blaster as his grenade blows. Bumma.

Insomniak takes on Blaster and his Quaded RL with his pistol and wins
(I think I was lucky to get away with that one but thanks for the compliment you paid me mate).

Luke - 3 rails in 3 different directions in 3 seconds - result ? 3 frags!!
Fek me !!

Most annoying thing in the demo. The sounds made by UNR players jumping everywhere..LOL. All you can hear on the demo is the sound of the female character jumping as UNR strafe jump, rocket jump and turbo run around the level..LOL

UNR vs UKF   124 - 44

The Edge - Q2DM1

For the first half of this 20 minute game, UNR's team of Tasan, Rude, Insomniak and Diabolic seemed to be fragging UKF at a ratio of approximately 2:1 but as the half way point approached, UNR started to pull further ahead... UKF's GrimReefer, Chrononaut, DNM and reaper fought hard but had great difficulty in scoring, especially with Tas and Rude at full frag speed! To make matters worst, UKF's LPB reaper overflowed, forcing Cham to sub in the last 3 mins of the game.

Not to be disheartened UKF kept in good spirit, especially DNM with his in-game commentry on the weather! :O)

Thanx for the game UKF, another outstanding win by UNR with a final score of 124 - 44
